Tarnetar & Ravechi Fair – Bhuj, Gujrat

Tarnetar Fair , a tranquil hamlet near Rajkot witness a blindingly colorful fair in the first week of the ‘Bhadrapad’ month (Aug/Sep). The major attractions of the fair attended by thousands are a marriage mart, fascinating folk dance performances, folk music and the famous Tarneter Chhatri (a unique umbrella made at Tarnetar).

The Ravechi Fair is held at the Ravechi Mata Temple at the Rav village in Gujarat in the month of ‘Bhadra’ in the Hindu calendar (September). The festival is attended by over 30,000 people every year. A grand fair is organized as part of the festival where hundreds of stalls selling local handicrafts, home-made clothes, hand-made fabrics, mirror works, embroidery and lace works are put up. Day 01 Arrive Mumbai
Welcome to India ! Meeting and assistance on arrival at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 02 Mumbai
Morning after breakfast Excursion to Elephanta Caves (closed on Mondays) – from the Gateway of India take a motor launch to the 7th century sculptures of manifestation of Shiva. Afternoon sightseeing tour of Mumbai city visiting Prince of Wales Musuem (closed on Mondays), Fish Aquarium, Jain Temples, Hanging Gardens on the slopes of Malabar Hills offering nice view of Marine Lines and Chowpatty Beach, Kamla Nehru Park and Marine drive. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 03 Mumbai – Bhuj
Morning after breakfast departure transfer to the airport to board flight to bhuj. Assistance on arrival and transfer to the safari lodge which is located approx 14 kms outside the town. In the afternoon visit the Katchh Museum which, built in 1877, is the oldest museum in Gujarat . Overnight at the lodge.

Day 04 Bhuj - Tarnetar
Morning after breakfast Jeep Safari in the Rann of Katchh - Home to the famous Indian Wild Ass and a number of exotic birds coming from as far as Siberia. Later drive to Tarnetar .Upon arrival check in at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 05 Tarnetar
Morning after breakfast Visit the temple & witness the Tarnetar Fair, which is held at the temple of Trinetreshwar Mahadev popularly called Tarnetar, which is also the name of the small village where it is located. Trinetreshwar Mahadev refers to the three-eyed Lord Shiva. The old ruined temple that stood at Tarnetar was renovated in 1902. Architectural design belongs to the 14th century and is a protected monument. Overnight in Tarnetar

Day 06 Tarnetar
Morning after breakfast Full day participate in the fair. The fair is linked with the story of Draupadi's place that the great archer Arjuna performed the difficult task that won him his bride. A pole was erected in the center of the pond and a fish was kept rotating at the top of the pole, at top speed. The contestant was supposed to pierce the eye of the fish with an arrow while looking at the reflection of the fish in water. Tarnetar is one of the most important match making melas. The tribal youth hold large colourful embroidered umbrellas, which indeed have become emblems of the fair and reveal their bachelor status. Overnight in Tarnetar

Day 07 Tarnetar – Dasada
Morning after breakfast departure by surface to Dasada (120 kms/3 ½ hrs approx).Upon arrival check-in at the camp. Zainabad, situated on a lakeside, close to Little Rann of Kutch on one side and Saurashtra on the other side, is a quaint town endowed with a rich and unique tribal culture and architecture unmatched in variety and beauty. Evening: Visit the nearby Rabari villages Overnight in Dasada

Day 8 Dasada
Morning after breakfast take a jeep safari through the Little Rann of Kutch to see the rare species of the "Indian Wild Ass". PM: Visit the nearby villages to see local tribes such as Rabari, Koli and Bajania still maintain their rich heritage of lifestyle clothes, jewelry and dances. Their embroidery is exquisite. Visit villages where one can see Negroid Sidhi tribes - people from Gir & Kutch. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 09 Dasada - Ravechi
Morning after breakfast departure by surface to Ravechi. Upon arrival check in at the hotel. Afternoon participation in Fair. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 10 Ravechi
Morning after breakfast full day participate in the festival this fair is held at nani rav, on bhadrapad sud 8. It is attended by thousands of people- rabari,koli, kanabi-patel & ahirs. The pandavas built the original temple of ravechi mata. ravechi mata is none other than the local goddess ashapurji of kutch- who is the form of hindu goddess- parvati. Her other forms have also been installed in the temple overnight at the hotel.

Day 11 Ravechi - Balaram
Morning after breakfast departure by surface to Balaram. Upon arrival check in at the hotel. Evening: Visit the nearby Chatrasani village (Marwari Rabbari settlement). Overnight at the hotel in Balaram.

Day 12 Balaram
Morning after breakfast full day excursion to Modhera & Patan Modhera - See the sun temple of the 11th century built by the Solanki rulers. The temple is built on a platform shaped in the form of a lotus in full bloom - the symbol of the sun god - Surya. Patan - See the Rani ki vav (step wells) constructed by Solanki Queen in 1056 AD. Also visit the Patola workshop. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 13 Balaram - Poshina
Morning after breakfast departure by surface to poshina upon arrival check in at the hotel. Later sightseeing tour of PoshinaAn ideal break between the popular tourist destinations of Rajasthan and those of Gujarat , Darbargadh Poshina 180 kms from Ahmedabad. The castle offers an opportunity to stay as the guest of a royal family and explore some of the most picturesque tribal areas in all of India ! Visit the 11th-12th century marble Jain temples of Kumbharia, the scenic Songadh Lake , and the colourful tribal villages, the artisans who work on pottery, terracotta horses, tribal ornaments, bows, arrows, daggers and marble carving. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 14 Poshina – Ahmedabad
Morning after breakfast departure by surface to ahmedabad upon arrival check in at the hotel. Afternoon pm: visit the incomparable calico museum. it is housed in one of the exclusive and magnificent residence of the well-known sarabhai family. in the gardens of this exquisite building, Gujarat 's famous carved wooden havelis have been reconstructed to display an exquisite collection of rare textiles that date back to the 17th century. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 15 Ahmedabad
Morning visit the Siddi Sayyid mosque famous for its exquisite stone window tracery of face like filigree. Visit the Shreyas folk art museum, which presents the most attractive folk art of Gujarat . Afternoon visit the Sabarmati Ashram also known as the Gandhi Ashram, set up in 1915. This was the nerve center of India 's freedom movement. In 1930 Gandhiji began his famous Dandi march from here. Visit Juma Masjid and Rani Sipri mosque. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 16 Ahmedabad – Delhi
Morning after breakfast departure transfer to the airport to board flight to Delhi . Assistance on arrival transfer to the hotel. Afternoon City tour of New Delhi will include visits to the Embassy area, India Gate, the Secretariat Buildings , the President's Palace, Parliament House and the Raj Ghat Memorial to Mahatma Ghandi. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 17 Depart Delhi
